We are thrilled to have participated in the GO4SET/STEM challenge with Crompton House Church of England School in Oldham.
What is GO4SET/STEM?
GO4SET is a 10 week Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) project for 12-14 year olds. The initiative allows employers to reach young people, enabling development of employability skills and career pathways whilst changing perceptions.
Managing Director Mashukul Hoque and other Datacentreplus staff members assisted a full year group (a total of 221 pupils) on the GO4SET Challenge. Responsibilities (including becoming a Mentor) included:
– Stimulating ideas and motivating the team to be creative, whilst at the same time encouraging the pupils to be realistic with the given time constraints.
– Offering support and guidance throughout the project. This included the likes of any problems that may arise and how to take responsibility as a team.
– Share existing knowledge and practical experience to enhance pupils’ understanding of how STEM subjects are important in everyday settings.
Managing Director, Mashukul Hoque on STEM related subjects says:
“It has been fantastic to see the pupils develop their skills in a real-world setting. In a technology based society, technology is forever changing and STEM subjects will be vital. It has been rewarding to see the pupils understand the importance of maths and science and it will definitely assist with their future study and employment potential.”
Communications Manager, Rachel Waters also assisted as a member of the judging panel on the final day of the project. This took the form of a ‘Celebration & Assessment Day’ at Crompton House, whereby pupils were able to showcase their project work, knowledge and understanding to a panel of assessors. Various prizes were given out on the day including that of, best project, best teamwork, as well as an award for the best innovative idea.

It was fantastic to see all the pupils so engaged, positive and enthusiastic with their STEM related projects over the course of the ten weeks”.
